 Friends Mission

The Friends of the Library Company of Burlington was formed to provide economic support to maintain, protect, preserve and present the historical value of this Library's architecture, artifacts, records and documents in a way that capitalizes on the original setting while enabling relevant services for the communities it serves. Since receiving its current Charter from England’s King George II in 1757, New Jersey’s oldest library in continuous operation enjoyed the support of its community. Contributions of property, time and money built the State’s first library building here in 1789, and enabled the publication of the first library catalogue of books printed in the United States. This legacy of communal support and service now exceeds 250 years and continues unabated today. The Friends meet the challenges of identifying sources and maximizing contributions through the solicitation of grants and bequests from private individuals, philanthropic organizations, corporate sponsorship, governmental allocations, and institutional gifts.

 Friends History

Since 2003, the Friends have partnered with one of our most treasured institutions chartered in 1758 by King George II.  Our mission to support the Library Company is carried out by Friends and library patrons who care about the City of Burlington and Burlington Township.  The Friends are grateful for and depend on volunteer efforts of leaders who inspire concerned citizens to work effectively with the dedicated library staff in support of The Library Company.
